Triangulated Quads

Planar triangulation of complex forms

Investigations into planar resolution of complex forms by triangulating quad surfaces.

Summary

Complex double curve surfaces are typically difficult to fabricate using traditional sheet materials. To prevent material buckling planar connections are necessary to limit the need for intricate joints. By triangulating geometric quadrants we are able to make double curve transitions with planar elements. We developed software that can analyze complex surfaces and create triangulated quadrants that are flattened and labeled for laser cutting, milling, or digital manufacturing methods.
